Liam Gallagher hits back at claims Oasis are reuniting because they are ‘skint’

Band’s former lead vocalist takes to social media to tell users ‘your attitude stinks’ as reunion speculation grows

Liam Gallagher has hit back at claims that Oasis are set to reunite because they are “broke” following his brother Noel’s £20 million divorce last year.
The band’s former lead vocalist took to X, formerly Twitter, to tell users that “your attitude stinks” after they posted that the brothers would only be reforming the band because they needed money.
He responded after one user posted: “It’s better off left it the 90s … they must be skint.” Another was told the same after claiming that “cash is drying up”.
It came amid reports that Noel Gallagher was persuaded of the financial merits of getting Oasis back together for gigs at Glastonbury and Wembley Stadium following his divorce from Sara MacDonald.
He met the music publicist,in Ibiza in 2000. They married in 2011 and have two sons, but announced their split in January last year. 
The divorce reignited speculation that the brothers could bring about an Oasis reunion, with Liam Gallagher having previously claimed Ms MacDonald had stopped the pair from reuniting.
In a series of tweets in 2019, he wrote that, despite his brother being “desperate” to spend time with him, he would not because of his wife. He wrote: “Your mrs won’t let ya.” 
It was common knowledge that Liam Gallagher and his brother’s ex-wife did not get along.
The Gallaghers had heightened speculation that an Oasis reunion could be on the horizon as they teased that a band announcement could be made on Tuesday at 8am. 
Formed in 1991, the group rose to fame with hits like Wonderwall, Don’t Look Back In Anger and Stop Crying Your Heart Out.

A short clip of a sign in the style of the Oasis logo was shared on both their Instagram accounts on Sunday night, as well as on the official Oasis page. The black sign had the date “27.08.24” written in the middle before it flickered and changed to read “8am”.
Fans of the Manchester band have pleaded for a reunion since they broke up in 2009, prompted by a backstage brawl at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris.
During Liam Gallagher’s headline Reading Festival set on Sunday evening, he dedicated the Oasis track Half The World Away to his brother, and later said their hit Cigarettes & Alcohol was dedicated to people who hate the band.
At the end of the gig, the same clip teasing Tuesday’s date was shown on the stage’s main screens.
Reunion rumours have circulated over the years, but intensified recently over an apparent thawing in the feud between the brothers. Reports over the weekend cited industry insiders who claimed they were set to perform a string of gigs next year, including shows at London’s Wembley Stadium and Manchester’s Heaton Park.
There is also speculation that a Glastonbury headline slot could be in the works. Liam Gallagher fuelled the rumours by offering some tongue-in-cheek responses to fans who flooded him with messages on social media asking for confirmation.
When one asked when the reunion dates will be announced, he replied: “Next Friday.” He also tweeted on Sunday morning that he “never did like that word FORMER”.
It comes as the band’s debut album Definitely Maybe is set to mark its 30th anniversary this week with a special edition. 
Fans were also surprised to hear Noel Gallagher pay his brother a string of compliments in an interview with the music journalist John Robb at Manchester’s Sifters Records, released last week in honour of the album’s 30th anniversary. 
Reflecting on his brother’s performances, he said: “It’s the delivery or the tone of his voice and the attitude. I don’t have the same attitude as him.”
