Records in RG Kar rape case were altered at police station, CBI tells court

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday told a special court that some records pertaining to the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar hospital were “falsely created” and “altered” at the Tala Police Station.
The CBI was seeking the judicial custody of Tala Police Station officer in-charge Abhijit Mondal and RG Kar’s former principal Sandip Ghosh.
During the hearing, the CBI claimed that during the interrogation of both accused, additional facts had emerged which show some false records pertaining to the case were created or altered in the Tala police station.
The CBI told the court that it seized CCTV footage of the police station which has been sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), Kolkata, for examination.
“Some things are beyond of CBI investigation. There is no magic wand in our hand that we can do everything in a moment. We need time. We have extracted databases from their mobile phones and CCTV footages. We are still collecting evidences. It takes time that’s why we are praying for judicial custody till September 30,” the CBI counsel told the court.
The Sealdah court accepted the CBI’s plea and sent Ghosh and Mondal to judicial custody till September 30.
The CBI arrested Mondal on September 14 while Sandip Ghosh, who was already in judicial custody in corruption, was taken into custody on September 15 after the orders of the court.
A 31-year-old trainee doctor was found raped and murdered at the RG Kar hospital on August 9. The Kolkata Police arrested Sanjay Roy, the prime accused, a day later.
